New Students

We offer instruction in violin, viola, and cello, following the philosophy of Talent Education developed by Shinichi Suzuki.

“Teaching music is not my main purpose.  I want to make good citizens, noble human beings. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” ~ Shinichi Suzuki

Our school year runs from September to June. Enrolment is for the full year.

Observations

Prior to registering, we require beginning families to meet with one or both of our directors and complete three observations (one private lesson, one group class, and attend a school-wide event.) This is to help you decide if this method of teaching suits you and your family, and to determine whether your child is ready to start.

Parental Involvement

A key to the Suzuki approach is parental involvement. The parent attends every lesson with the child, takes notes, and acts as a practice partner at home. With younger students, the parent may also receive instruction on the instrument.  The practice times at home are very short to start with, but daily practice is expected.

Parent Support

In the first year, parents of beginning students are invited to attend the online Every Child Can! parent classes that serve as a source of information and support.

New families will be paired with current ESM families who can provide guidance and support in the beginning stages.

School Schedule

All students in our instrumental core program receive 36 weekly private lesson and  23 weeks of group classes and activities.

Group classes are held on Mondays at Plast Huculak Centre. Private lessons take place at Plast and various locations in Etobicoke and Toronto. Students begin with a half hour lesson, which increases in length as the child progresses.
